Superintendent Report:

Merritt met with several Bureau of Reclamation engineers this morning at the Terror Creek ditch break; engineers felt the water is coming from upstream; the engineers suggested digging a ditch along the ditch bank next to the canal, locate the water, daylight the trench and install a drain; engineers felt this was a good insurance policy in preventing another break at this location. The Grand Junction Bureau of Reclamation office can provide drawings and some oversight for installing the drain.

We are currently waiting for Sikora’s drain proposal.

Maintenance Discussion: General discussion on Sunshine Mesa leak and Powell Mesa leak; general discussion on spillway repair, dam gate repair, and concrete pours; timing, cost, and safety; discussion on hiring a contractor for spillway repair and dam gate repair due to timing and safety issues.  Jay Creek siphon valve needs repair and Trey would like some outside help for the valve repair. Patterson lateral parshall needs to be replaced and the bridge rebuilt; several head gates at Garvin Mesa need to be fixed; discussion on maintenance priority list, timing, and cost.

Discussion on installing a trash rack at the #4 headgate on Leroux Creek to prevent trees from entering gate.  Dixie L. motions to authorize the RMWDA to install a trash rack at #4 takeout, Wes S. seconds and the motion carries.

New Business:

Carl Roberts talked to Wink Davis and was able to get John Pickering to spray the knapweed along the ditch bordering Davis’s property without threatening Davis’s organic status.

Webb Callicut sprayed toadflax at the dam.

John Pickering and Merritt road the ditch recently to inspect weeds; Pickering recommended spraying weeds in the spring as it would not do a lot of good to spray the ditch now.

Randy needs to acknowledge letters of interest and that we will get back to them after the next meeting.

Meeting adjourned at 11:00 pm.
